Original Work Proposal

Introduction and Statement of Purpose For my original work, I plan to create a mini guide to the world cultures of business. This will enable me to showcase the skills I have researched and developed this semester in a compact project. I would be analyzing the data and information provided in the articles I have researched to gather the main business culture practices, societal values, and norms of the major global regions. My purpose is to utilize my knowledge to gain an understanding of what real-life application of such international business skills would look like. Beyond that, my overall goal with studying international business is to blend the best aspects of each country’s businesses, creating a more empathetic and interconnected world. My plan is to create lists of the major norms that characterize different cultures along with a case study example for each. Then, I will use the skills I have learned to analyze the data, create a report of recommendations, and describe a culturally informed plan of action. This presentation will allow me to practice not only solving business struggles, but also understanding and applying cultural context to them. Review of Skills and Research A majority of my research so far has been focused on the psychological implications of language and basic multinational expansion scenarios. These will give me an indication of how to approach my cases. I have also completed a few research papers on the principal skills and techniques utilized by international consultants so I can keep those in my mind as I work through the cases. Other research about soft skills and culturally appropriate business interactions will also be mentioned within my guide for my reference as well as to act as a didactic tool for others. Some important aspects I have read about involve hours of operation and punctuality, appropriateness of discussing business affairs at parties or social gatherings, and the key values that each culture’s community and its businesses prioritize. A couple of sections of the articles I have covered give specific examples which I could also use as a basis for parts of my guide. Some examples of these include McDonalds maintaining its identity as a cheap and easy restaurant but adapting to fit local flavors, like spiced paneer in India and more pastries in France. Recently, I have had the privilege of connecting with multiple professionals who are well versed in global roles, so they were able to explain how to be assertive while remaining charismatic when dealing with unknown cultures. Methodology Participants: For my methodology, I do not plan to use any participants, since my idea only involves me, my research, and my case studies. Materials: The materials I expect to use are my research papers, more region-specific articles, notes from conversations with professionals, Google Docs, and Canva. Description of Process and Procedures: My first step would be to make a list of all the cultures I would like to include in my guide. While I would ideally love to study every country’s nuances, that simply isn’t feasible for the time-being, so I will stick to 6-8 major regions that can be characterized under relatively similar cultural norms. I would like to finalize this list by October 30, 2025. After that, I will start writing short sections regarding the business practices, hand gestures, and general values of each culture. I would like to complete my research and writing for half of the regions by November 7, 2025. I will finish the other half of my general research for each part of the world by November 13, 2025. Furthermore, I will include a short case study analysis pertinent to each community, in which I demonstrate an application of cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence along with business strategy. The entire guide should be fully done by November 20, 2025. If time permits, I will add a presentation portion in which I summarize and analyze my takeaways to present them to a diverse audience. That will be completed by November 30, 2025. Utilization of High-Level Thinking Skills I will need to focus on several high level thinking skills throughout my original work timeline, including analyzing data, synthesizing research, problem-solving, effective communication, and cultural awareness. With typical case studies related to consulting, some quantitative or qualitative data is given. I would need to pick apart this data to identify a few key issues I will address. I can select keywords or data points which are relevant to the problems at hand and then reflect on potential causes and solutions for these issues. However, in this project, I cannot opt for the instinctual, logic-based solutions. Instead, I will have to evaluate the recommendations via a cultural lens to see if they fit in with the respective society’s values and practices. Thus, I will need to utilize the significant parts of my region-based research and apply them to the specific case, making me practice synthesis. Once I have solved the identified problems, I will have to use my soft skills to summarize the content into a digestible presentation for my hypothetical client if time allows. I have learned that some important parts of cross-cultural communication are being aware of different connotations, the implications of certain hand gestures, and the language of preference. Thus, I will be utilizing multiple thinking skills as I have detailed above. Conclusion To conclude, I am anticipating to gain a much clearer idea of how to consult internationally by teaching the techniques I have learned about through a guide and applying them to real life situations. I think that at the moment, it is primarily to benefit my learning and my ISM journey. However, in the long run, I see myself sharing this guide to help future high schoolers understand international business better, since it contains information that would have been helpful to me when I did not know much about this topic. This would enable me to create an impact on other students in the long run, while furthering my own knowledge at the same time. I can get further feedback on this initiative by sharing it with people of different nationalities in my network for more accuracy and personal experiences. This idea differs from what already is available because there are not many resources which support high school students in understanding global case studies. Most resources are targeted at college graduates and industry professionals, therefore they are too complex for a beginner to fully comprehend. My goal is to compile my learnings into a guide which is simple but thorough, and can help high school students understand how to approach and solve international business cases. I am looking forward to getting started on creating my original work soon.

Final Product Proposal

Introduction and Statement of Purpose For my final product, I plan to create a consulting matrix of my own. This will enable me to showcase the skills I have researched and developed this year in a compact project. I would be analyzing the data and information provided in the articles I have researched to gather the main business culture practices, societal values, and norms of the major global regions and how businesses adapt to them. This is important for businesses to consider since a lack of cultural alignment could be the difference between a successful image or financial loss and public dissatisfaction. My purpose is to utilize my current knowledge to gain an understanding of what real-life application of such international business skills would look like. Beyond that, my overall goal with studying international business is to blend the best aspects of each region’s businesses, creating a more empathetic and interconnected world. My plan is to create lists of the major components, including cultural situations, that factor into consulting approaches. Then, I will use the skills I have learned to analyze these factors in a few example cases and structure my matrix based on the BCG one. This matrix or flowchart will allow me to practice not only solving business like human-resource efficiency and financial optimization, but also understanding and applying problem-solution relationships to common consulting tasks. Review of Skills and Research A majority of my research this year so far has been focused on the psychological implications of language and basic multinational expansion scenarios. These will give me an indication of how to approach consulting cases. I also completed numerous research papers on the principal skills and techniques utilized by consultants, like SWOT analyses, during ISM 1, so I can keep those in my mind as I work through creating my matrix. Some important aspects I have read about, involve hours of operation and punctuality, appropriateness of discussing business affairs at parties or social gatherings, and the key values that each culture’s community and its businesses prioritize. A couple of sections of the articles I have covered give specific examples which I could also use as a basis for solutions to common industry problems. I am aware that every consulting case looks a little bit different, but my reasoning behind making this matrix is to highlight a few strong solution ideas to recurring problems based on past successes. Recently, I have had the privilege of connecting with multiple professionals who are well versed in global roles, so they will also be able to give me some insight about the realistic effectiveness of my matrix. Methodology Participants: For my methodology, I do not plan to use any participants, since my idea only involves me, my research, and my case studies. Materials: The materials I expect to use are my research papers, more region-specific articles, notes from conversations with professionals, Google Docs, and Canva. Description of Process and Procedures: My first step would be to make a list of all the scenarios I would like to include in my matrix. While I would ideally love to study every case and company’s nuances, that simply isn’t feasible for the time-being, so I will stick to 6-8 major situations that can be characterized as the most commonly dealt with in management consulting. I would like to finalize this list by January 25, 2026. After that, I will start writing short sections regarding the possible solutions along with pros and cons for each with respect to each major problem. I would like to complete my research and writing for half of the issues by February 7, 2026. I will finish the other half of my general research for each part of the world by February 23, 2026. The entire matrix should be fully done by March 1, 2026. If time permits, I will add a presentation portion in which I summarize and analyze my takeaways to present them to a diverse audience to do a litmus test of sorts. That will be completed by March 20, 2026. However, in this project, I cannot opt for the instinctual, specific solutions that only address the problem at hand. Instead, I will have to evaluate the recommendations via a bigger picture lens to see if they fit in with the different possible circumstances under which a company, or individual, may encounter such an issue. Thus, I will need to utilize the significant parts of industry or even company-specific research and apply them to the issue, making me practice synthesis. Looking at qualitative aspects like customer happiness and quantitative metrics like return on investment, I will be able to deeply analyze information. Once I have solved the identified problems, I will have to use my soft skills to summarize the content into a digestible matrix for myself and my audiences . I have learned that some important parts of cross-cultural communication are being aware of different connotations, the implications of certain hand gestures, and the language of preference. Thus, I will be utilizing multiple thinking skills as I have detailed above. Conclusion To conclude, I am anticipating to gain a much clearer idea of how to consult internationally by teaching the techniques I have learned about through a matrix and applying them to real life situations. I think that at the moment, it is primarily to benefit my learning and my ISM journey. However, in the long run, I see myself sharing this matrix to help future high schoolers understand international business better, since it contains information that would have been helpful to me when I did not know much about this topic. Also, apart from the BCG matrix there are not many universal consulting frameworks, especially ones focused on international contexts, so hopefully with multiple revisions mine could become one used by several consultants one day. This would help make the consulting process a bit more systematic and efficient, allowing the scope for focusing on more nuances. My goal is to compile my learnings into a matrix which is simple but thorough, and can help high school students understand how to approach and solve international business cases. I am looking forward to getting started on creating my final product soon.

Original Work Proposal

Introduction and Statement of Purpose For my original work, I plan to create a set of solutions and recommendations to a case study. This will enable me to showcase the skills I have researched and developed this semester to a realistic situation. I would be analyzing the data and information provided in the case study to make well-rounded recommendations, which address the hypothetical client’s major pain points. My purpose is to utilize my knowledge to gain an understanding of what real-life application of such consulting skills would look like. My plan is to generate a case study, similar to a real-life situation that management consultants would have to address, through the use of ChatGPT. Then, I will use the skills I have learned to analyze the data, perform a SWOT analysis, create a report of recommendations, and deliver this information to hypothetical clients in a presentation format. This presentation will enable me to summarize my recommendations into action items for the client and practice my soft skills in delivering the presentation itself. Review of Skills and Research A majority of my research so far has been focused on techniques and skills used by management consultants on a day to day basis. This will give me an indication of how to approach my case. I have also completed a few research papers on the principal skills and techniques utilized by consultants so I can keep those in my mind as I work through the case. Other research about soft skills and conveying the message well to the clients are going to be beneficial to me during the presentation portion of my original work idea. Some important skills I have read about involve active listening, being concise, and having a structured and organized approach. A couple of sections of the articles I have covered give specific example suggestions which I could also use as a basis for parts of my plan. Some examples of these include conducting surveys on existing clients, speaking to store managers, and then looking to past successful strategies when crafting solutions. Recently, I have had the privilege of conducting multiple interviews with real management consultants. They were also able to give me further insight on how to go about consulting with a client. Methodology Participants: For my methodology, I do not plan to use any participants, since my idea only involves me and my case study. Materials: The materials I expect to use are my research papers, notes from my interviews, ChatGPT, Google Docs, and Canva. Description of Process and Procedures: My first step would be to request a case study which would require me to gather no further real-life data, from ChatGPT. I will look through the data provided to identify the key issues that I need to recommend solutions for. After that, I will look through my notes and research to address the different pain points detailed in the case study. Once I have created a solution, I will create a professionally formatted Canva presentation, including the key bullet points of my research and action steps that I would advise my hypothetical client to take. Further down the line, I would love to present my original work to an actual consultant and get their feedback on how well I addressed the case entirely and how effective my presentation was. In terms of a timeline, I would like to have my case study generated by the first week of November (around November 8). Next, I will work on analyzing the data and looking through my research for the rest of November. Towards the end of November and into December (approximately December 2), I will likely start putting together my presentation. Utilization of High-Level Thinking Skills I will need to focus on several high level thinking skills throughout my original work timeline, including analyzing data, synthesizing research, problem-solving, and effective communication and summarization. With typical case studies related to consulting, some quantitative or qualitative data is given. I would need to pick apart this data to identify a few key issues I will address. I will be able to select keywords or data points which are relevant to the problems at hand and then reflect on potential causes and solutions for these issues. Then, I will need to utilize the significant parts of my research and apply them to the specific case, making my practice synthesis. Once I have solved the identified problems, I will have to use my soft skills to summarize the content into a digestible presentation for my hypothetical client. I have learned that some important parts of communication are being concise but thorough, modulating the voice to maintain audience engagement, and ending with action steps, so the client knows what they should directly do to follow my recommendations and improve their situation. Thus, I will be utilizing multiple thinking skills as I have detailed above. Conclusion To conclude, I am anticipating to gain a much clearer idea of how to consult by applying the techniques I have learned about to a real life situation. I think that at the moment, it is primarily to benefit my learning and my ISM journey. However, in the long run, I see myself creating some kind of guide that might help future high schoolers understand consulting better and contains information that would have been helpful to me when I did not know much about consulting. This would enable me to create an impact on other students in the long run, while furthering my own knowledge at the same time. This idea differs from what already is available because there are not many resources which support high school students in understanding case studies. Most resources are targeted at college graduates and industry professionals, therefore they are too complex for a beginner to fully comprehend. My goal is to compile my learnings into a guide which is simple but thorough, and can help high school students understand how to approach and solve case studies. I am looking forward to getting started on creating my original work soon.

Final Product Proposal

Introduction and Statement of Purpose For my final product, I plan to create a consulting guide tailored to high school students. This will enable me to showcase the skills I have researched and developed this year in a product that can aid other students. I would be analyzing the data and information from my research and my mentor to compile what I find to be the most important steps and tips. My purpose is to utilize my knowledge to explain what consulting involves and teach others a few skills which are encompassed in such a career. My plan is to use what I have learned from my original work case study analysis and what my mentor has shared about her journey thus far to create a mini consulting guide, including job descriptions, the recruitment process, and specifically needed training for case studies and presentations. This will be beneficial to me and my audience because one of the best ways to improve understanding is to teach. It will be tailored to high school students with everyday vocabulary, concise bodies of text, and visuals wherever applicable, I will also focus on giving examples to further develop my point. My broader hope is to discover more valuable information that can assist me in my journey to becoming a management consultant. Review of Skills and Research A majority of my research so far has been focused on techniques and skills used by management consultants on a day to day basis. Using this information, I will synthesize what I have found to be the most helpful content into a concise guide. I have also completed a few research papers on the principal skills and techniques utilized by consultants, such as information analysis, problem solving, and effective communication, so I can keep those in my mind as I work through the guide. Other research about soft skills and conveying the message well to the clients are going to be beneficial to potential consultants as well. They were also able to give me further insight on how to go about consulting with a client, which I can include in the “life of a consultant” section of my guide. I have applied similar skills during my original work with the case study so I can speak a little bit from personal experience as well. Methodology Participants: For my methodology, I do not plan to use any participants, since my idea only involves me and my consulting guide. Materials: The materials I expect to use are my research papers, notes from my interviews, Google Docs, and Canva. Description of Process and Procedures: My first step would be to compile a list or outline of what I would like to emphasize in my guide. I will look through the data I have collected and begin grouping it into each category of the guide. Then, I will format it in paragraphs within different sections. Once I have created the actual content, I will create a professionally formatted packet with Canva, including the key bullet points of my research and action steps that I would advise students interested in consulting to take. I will also definitely be reviewing this guide with my mentor periodically to get her expert feedback. I can modify my information or the manner in which it is presented to be perceived more clearly or efficiently based on viewer feedback. In terms of a timeline, I would like to have figured out the main components I will include by around February 10, 2025. Next, I will work on analyzing the data and looking through my research to fill content into each of these sections until March 10, 2025. Towards the end of March and into April, I will likely start putting the guide together in Canva and considering the format and aesthetic elements. Utilization of High-Level Thinking Skills I will need to focus on several high level thinking skills throughout my original work timeline, including analyzing data, synthesizing research, problem-solving, and effective communication and summarization. With typical case studies related to consulting, some quantitative or qualitative data is given. I would need to explain how to pick apart this data to identify a few key issues to address. I will have to emphasize how to select keywords or data points which are relevant to the problems at hand and then reflect on potential causes and solutions for these issues. Then, I would utilize the significant parts of my research and apply them to a specific case, as I did with my original work, to illustrate how to synthesize researched information. I can affirm my own presentation techniques by sharing soft skills needed to summarize the content into a digestible presentation for my hypothetical client. I have learned that some important parts of communication are being concise but thorough, modulating the voice to maintain audience engagement, and ending with action steps, so the client knows what they should directly do to follow my recommendations and improve their situation. Thus, I will be utilizing multiple thinking skills and explain their significance to my future audience as I have detailed above. All of these skills will continue to serve me as I enter the business consulting industry. Results/Conclusions To conclude, I will have gained an even clearer idea of how to consult by applying the techniques by thoroughly explaining them within this guide. I am excited to be creating some kind of guide that might help future high schoolers understand consulting better and contains information that would have been helpful to me when I did not know much about consulting. Overall, I am pleased with how my first attempt at addressing a case study has turned out within my original work, and I am looking forward to deepening my knowledge through the development of this consulting guide.
