Weekly Report 5: Lots of Practice

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been practicing tons of cold calls in my ISM class. This means we get into different pairs of partners and take turns being the student and the professional. Honestly, last year I was fortunate enough to obtain several interviews and a mentor without doing much cold calling. However, this year I may need to harness it more, especially since international business is a much more niche industry. I’ve understood that I have a pretty good natural ability to adapt to spontaneous situations, but it has been interesting to share my communication skills with the ISM 1 students while improving mine at the same time.
Outside of ISM, I have had a super busy past couple of weeks in my other classes and activities, but I have begun sending out a few cold emails. I do feel like I am not getting responses as easily as I did last year, but I am determined to secure some informational interviews soon. I have also decided on keeping my Spanish teacher as one of my mentors and finding a business professional, preferably one in international business, as my other mentor. This way I can continue my Spanish learning and pursue consulting opportunities. Overall, I am looking forward to diving into my original work and connecting with a variety of people over the next few weeks.
