Lao Tzu once said “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” As I embark on my ISM journey, this quote seems fitting in that it encourages me to take it one step at a time and reminds me that over the next few months, my efforts will accumulate into an enriching experience.
I found ISM a few months ago as a solution to my conundrum. I could not decide on one career to pursue because I love all my classes too much. Through the application process, I had a chance to introspect and understand my values, strengths, and goals. This understanding enabled me to envision a path for my future self. I believe that I am suited to management consulting and that my strengths and interests align with this profession.
Over the past two weeks of ISM, I have learned the importance of active listening through our ice breaker activities. In addition, I explored the significance of my personal branding which represents my character. I have decided on the colors navy blue and lilac for my color scheme because I feel that they complement each other well just as the different aspects of my personality do. The navy blue symbolizes stability, trust, power, authority, and elegance. I believe that these align with my qualities as I am reliable, consistent, logical, and confident. On the other hand, the lightness of the lilac represents an air of creativity and passion which are both present in my genuine interest in the work that I do. Put together, these colors portray me: a dedicated, intelligent, consistent, passionate, and creative person.
Furthermore, I have gotten the opportunity to revise my résumé. I modified some descriptions of my past experience to be more specific and impactful as well as updated my experiences and awards from the past few months. I am looking forward to getting feedback from my peers and Ms. Russell so I can create a rèsumé which is easy to follow and reflects my qualifications in the best way possible.
We are going to be starting actual research and analyzing articles soon, so I am excited to dive into the world of consulting.
