Weekly Report 2: I Guess We Can Do It Without Technology

This past week, I learned an important lesson about our dependence on technology. When the internet went down across the school district, I thought that it was going to be a day wasted since my teachers could not access their lessons nor could I use the time to do my homework since just about everything was on my computer. I came into ISM assuming that it would be just as unfruitful and boring as the rest of my classes, but I was wrong.
Mrs. Russell had us do mock interviews with our peers and they really helped me realize the nuanced details that would improve my interview skills. Some examples are that I do not use hand gestures enough to enhance the impact of my words, that my smile sometimes looks frozen on and not completely genuine, and that I am allowed to make personal connections with my interviewee’s responses.
On a separate note, I created my own website that showcases my aspirations, resume, blog posts, and research. I am excited to keep updating it as I continue on my ISM journey. I feel like I learned a lot from our very first research assignment since it made me reflect on what I hope to learn and gain from this class. The mock interview questions that I came up with also helped me with the mock interviews we did that I mentioned earlier.
Looking forward, I have been researching different articles that I can use for my annotated bibliography and my first SMART goal, which is to annotate eight articles by October 10th. I find the articles so interesting and I cannot wait to dive deeper into them. Four weeks into ISM and I already feel like I have learned so much. In the following weeks, I am motivated to make the most out of the Business and Finance meetup and all of the other ISM opportunities coming my way.
