Over the course of the past week, I did an interview in my ISM class for three classes in a row. At first, it was slightly overwhelming, but exciting at the same time. I was so worried about what I would do if the conversation slowed, if the professional did not like my questions, or if my technology did not work. The night before the first interview, I reviewed my questions and tested my camera multiple times to be completely sure that I was ready.
Despite being so nervous for the first interview, I was so pleased with how it went. It felt like a completely natural conversation, and I gained so much valuable insight. Also, I created a sort of system for how I split my screen to type notes, view my questions, and keep my Google Meet open at the same time. The second interview was even better, since the professional I interviewed spoke to me almost as though I were her peer, and like she had known me for months. It made me feel so empowered and I think that is when I realized how much I love conducting interviews.
By the third interview, the nerves were gone, and I felt like I could keep chatting with the professional for even longer than our allotted 30 minutes. It is so enthralling to be learning so much while also having a pleasant conversation with someone who is in a position I aspire to be in going forward. After this experience, I cannot wait to find a mentor and have more regular meetings with them as I begin working on my original work.
