Over the past few weeks, I have been reaching out to many professionals in hopes of gaining a second interview and hopefully a mentor. Finally, Shreya Roy, one of my favorite interviewees responded to my email. After getting on a call with her, she agreed to be my mentor and I am so excited to get her input on my ISM journey going forward! I really appreciate her genuineness and enthusiasm. I am so relieved to have found someone who can help guide me as I try to dive deeper into consulting.
Besides that, we completed our first research presentations in the past week. The idea of speaking for 10 to 15 minutes continuously was slightly daunting at first, but once I practiced, I was actually looking forward to it. I got some valuable feedback about preparing slide decks that are less text heavy and include more graphics. In terms of my public speaking skills, I thought that I did pretty well, maintaining eye contact with the audience and modulating my voice to maintain audience engagement.
In addition, a smaller task that I accomplished was creating my display board plan. At first, I was unsure of how to incorporate symbols since there aren’t specific visuals that link to consulting. After speaking with Ms. Russell, I decided to go with a more minimalistic and professional design, highlighting an organized format and my blue and white color scheme.
Looking forward, I am excited to get my original work done, especially with the added advice from my mentor.
